Fleet coordination

Fleet coordination brings individual systems into a shared mission. HawkWorks combines state exchange, observation sharing, task decomposition, and role allocation across drones, robots, and vehicles. Local formation rules and distributed decisions connect those assignments to movement and coordination, without making every decision depend on centralized control.

How it connects

  1. Decompose the objective
  2. Share state and observations
  3. Score task assignments
  4. Assign roles
  5. Coordinate movement and decisions
  6. Reassign roles

Build awareness from shared observations

Systems exchange state through a mesh network using a gossip protocol, in which updates spread between peers, with heartbeat monitoring alongside that exchange. Collaborative perception combines observations from multiple systems. Confidence and recency determine each observation’s weight, so the shared view accounts for both how reliable an observation is and how recently it was made.

Assign work to available capabilities

Task decomposition breaks a complex objective into subtasks that can run in parallel while retaining their dependencies. Auctions allocate work using scores based on battery, position, and capability. The roles described are Scout, Tracker, Relay, and Mapper, with dynamic assignment and automatic reassignment connecting the mission’s tasks to the systems participating in it.

Coordinate movement and decisions

Formation control uses local flocking rules: separation keeps systems apart, alignment coordinates their direction, and cohesion keeps the group together. Distributed voting supports mission-critical decisions across the participating systems. These mechanisms pair local interactions for movement with a collective process for decisions, complementing the shared state, observations, and task assignments used throughout the fleet.
